A glass bong is a sealed chamber
half-full with water. It has two pipes one with a bowl on the end
that goes into the chamber under water level and another pipe with a
mouthpiece on the end that enters the chamber and stays above water
level. The bowl is used to place the tobacco or herb which is inhaled on
the mouthpiece. The lower air pressure in the chamber causes air to
travel from the bowl, through the water, into the chamber and into the
lungs.
A bong seems similar to a water pipe but the feeling is different. With
a water pipe one slowly draws the smoke through a hose and water. Using
a bong the smoke will pass the water very quickly and enters right into
the lungs.
